Wood Fun Background

This is what we want to achieve.

Wood fun background tile

These instructions are for PSP 9.
I know that it can be done in 7 & 8.

These pages will be slow to load as they are
graphic intensive. They are written for
those with only a basic knowledge of PSP.

Materials you will need.

The first thing that we want to do is to open
a new canvas, *100 x 100*, with a transparent
background, resolution 72.000. The size is
important. I don't get the same results using
any other size. It has to be 100 x 100!

Flood fill it with a color of your choice.
It doesn't matter what color you use.
I used #2d355c.

Go to Effects/Plugins/Eye Candy 4000/Wood.

Under the settings heading, choose Knotty Pine.

*Your image will not look like mine until
you have the next three settings completed.*

They are the Basic, Knots & Grain tabs.

Go back to the basic tab when all three are done.
The first one is the Basic tab.

Wood Basic Tab

These are the settings:

Direction: 90
Ring Thickness: 10.08
Cut Offset: 100
Variation Amoout: 10
Variation Roughness: 10
Seamless Tile: unchecked
Pulp Color: any one you want
Bark Color: any one you want
Random Seed: 510

After setting the random seed, click in another
box to make it take effect.

Note: I used #2d355c for my Pulp Color
and #6f7eb7 for my Bark Color.

The second one is the Knots tab.

Wood Knots Tab

These are the settings:

Number of Knots: 3
Knot Size (pixels): 14.40

The third one is the Grain tab.

Wood Grain Tab

These are the settings:

Grain Length (pixels): 8.64
Grain Width (pixels): 1.44
Grain Density: (%): 32
Grain Opacity (%): 23
Grain Color: #000000

Now go to Effects/Reflection Effects/Kaleidoscope.

Kaleidoscope

These are the settings:

Horizontal Offset (%): -64
Vertical Offset (%): -20
Rotation angle: 0
Scale Factor: 81
Number of Petals: 4
Number of Orbits: 1
Radial Suction: 66
Wrap: Checked

The last thing I did was to take it in to
Simple Filters and make it a seamless tile.

Simple's Seamless Tile

Go to Effects/Simple/Seamless Tile and click Apply.

You can make it into a seamless tile in
any program that you prefer to use.
There are many of them out there.

Save your work!

I hope that you had fun with the tutorial
and I didn't confuse you to much!
Now you need to go and do it again and do
your own playing with the settings. You
will find that every little thing you
touch changes the out come of your work
drastically! It is a lot of fun to play
with the settings. I have never done it
before and so when I did, I wrote down
what I did and made a tutorial from it.
